Welcome to the Table
On Thursday, One Hope Kids Ministries hosted the Royal Dinner Party: Family Workshop. 25 people sat around the table together and shared a meal, learning from our Family Ministries Leader Charissa Rankin how to keep Christ at the center of your family time. Whether it is talking about Jesus or being Jesus to your kids, sitting around a table and inviting God to be there too is a great way to grow closer together as a family.
Mark 2:15-17 which reads, "Later, Levi invited Jesus and his disciples to his home as dinner guests, along with many tax collectors and other disreputable sinners. (There were many people of this kind among Jesus’ followers.) But when the teachers of religious law who were Pharisees saw him eating with tax collectors and other sinners, they asked his disciples, 'Why does he eat with such scum?' When Jesus heard this, he told them, 'Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.'”
I think about the table Christ has invited us to. It doesn't matter what your past is, your demographic, your career, etc. Jesus wants you to sit with him. He's got a place for you, name inscribed on the back of the chair, seated among the heroes of the faith. He's invited you to his table. Now ask yourself, have you invited him to yours?
I encourage you today to think of how you can bring Jesus to your meal time. Below are a few suggestions. Which one will you implement in your home?
Pray before you eat
Everyone share one thing you can thank God for
Pick a Bible verse and answer the question, "What does this verse show us about God?"
Have an empty chair left specifically for Jesus
Make each night a different themed discussion (e.g. "Thankful Thursdays," "Mission Mondays," "Story Saturdays")
