Veterans Day Reflection: Serving with Purpose, Seeing with Love
A veteran’s uniform tells a story of courage, sacrifice, and service. Yet behind every uniform is a deeper calling — Why do we serve? In the military, service is mission-driven. In God’s Kingdom, service is love-driven.
Philippians 2:3–5 reminds us to do nothing out of selfish ambition but to value others above ourselves and have the same mindset as Christ. True service begins when we look beyond our own needs and see others through the eyes of Jesus.
Colossians 3:23 tells us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” Every act — no matter how small — becomes worship when it’s done for Him.
Just as soldiers serve under their commander, we serve under our King, Jesus Christ. Our uniform is the cross; our mission is love. When we see Jesus in everyone, our service takes on eternal purpose.
Let us remember today:
We serve because we see. We see because we love.
And as Jesus said in Matthew 25:40, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these... you did for me.”
