Every Second of Every Day
In the beginning the Trinity created the world knowing all that would happen. Knowing that Adam and Eve would sin and humanity would fall to sin. The story could have ended at the fall. The Trinity could have said they were done and gotten rid of humanity, however the story doesn't end at the fall. On the contrary the fall is at the beginning of God’s story. God has spent every day reaching out to His people trying to have relationships with them. Jesus came to die for our sins so that God could have an intimate relationship with us. Before Jesus goes to the cross (knowing what was going to happen), he prays this for believers.
"Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. I have made you known to them. And will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.” [John 17: 24-26 (NIV)]
God deeply wants a relationship with us. Jesus stands at the doors of our hearts and knocks waiting to be let in. He doesn’t force us to open the door and have a relationship with him. He does the opposite. He gently knocks and waits knowing that you have the choice to open the door or to refuse. God sent his only son to die on the cross so that we can have the most intimate relationship possible with us.
Think about your closest relationship (whether that is a best friend, a parent, a significant other, anyone) and think about how well you know each other. You can finish each other's sentences, or you know how they are going to react to certain things, or you know what buttons to push to get a response out of them, or you know what things to do or say in order to cheer them up on a hard day. While this relationship is so close and you feel like you couldn’t know each other better, God tells us that he wants to have a relationship even closer than that.
God wants a relationship where he knows the ins and outs of your entire being. He knows the things that your heart wants. He knows the things that your mind wants to say on the best and worst days. He knows what happens behind closed doors when you are alone. He knows everything. He knit you together in your mother’s womb. In order to live in this relationship, you have to open the door and allow Jesus in. Jesus didn’t come to die in order to condemn you but rather to save you so you can live in reconciliation and live in this relationship with God.
Let Jesus into every part of your being (heart, mind, soul, strength, everything). God doesn’t want just a Sunday morning relationship with you, He wants a relationship every second of every day. God loves you more than any of us can even begin to comprehend.
