Keep the Spirit

Christmas. What a lovely time of year! Even with all of the stresses involved sometimes, the festive mood, music, decorations, yummy food, special times with family and friends, and most importantly, celebrating Jesus’s Birthday make most of us feel better than any other time of the year.

But why only then? Is it so hard to keep that Holiday Spirit all year long? Why can’t we make a conscious effort to celebrate ALL of the gifts Jesus provides for us day in and day out? Simply waking up each day is a gift that most don’t even consider.

I say keep that Spirit in your heart. Smile, hug, spend time with family and friends, mail out Thinking of You cards (who doesn’t LOVE personal mail?), send out a text, make a phone call, give back to the community, serve in areas you haven't before. Celebrate the small stuff, whatever it might be!

Listening to all of the Christmas music over the Holiday, I heard a great song by Tasha Layton, “Christmas All Year Long”. If you haven’t heard it, I encourage you to go to YouTube and give it a try.

It’s a catchy tune that’s a little silly, but the message is still there. Fight those blues. Look forward to the next year. What blessings can you provide to help other’s keep that Spirit up?

If you need help/reminders, grab a pack of post-it notes and write down verses and place them ALL OVER the place…bedside table, bathroom mirror, microwave oven, car dashboard. Here are just a few of my favorites: Jeremiah 29:11; Isaiah 40-31; Romans 15-13; 1 Chronicles 16:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:18; Philippians 4:13; I John 4:11.
