Who are you terrified, oh you of little faith?

A couple of weeks ago, I took my son with the youth group from church to Kings Island. Last year, he would not ride roller coasters. He was terrified—truly. I could see the anxiety in his eyes. Still, I lovingly encouraged him to try a few exciting rides. I could tell when he hit his limit, but I knew that if he could just push through the fear and get on a coaster, he’d love it.

Fast forward to this year: he joined up with a group of friends and off they went—riding every coaster in the park. Did he love it? YES. But it took time, growth, encouragement from others, and—ultimately—believing he was safe.
In Matthew 8:23–24, we find the disciples in a small fishing boat with Jesus, out on the Sea of Galilee. They had just heard Him speak about the challenges and sacrifices of following Him. They loved Him. They trusted Him. They followed Him. But still… they had hesitations.

A squall rose up (and those storms on Galilee can be brutal). The boat rocked, rain poured, waves crashed—and Jesus was asleep. The disciples, terrified and uncertain, woke Him up. And Jesus said, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” He calmed the storm. But more than that, He reminded them: faith means trusting His presence is enough. Even when the boat is rocking.

This morning, I sit with my coffee in the quiet of my living room, praying—and imagining the storms in my life being calmed. Focusing on Jesus. He is certain. He is unwavering. And I believe… He will do it.

Today, may the storms in your life be overwhelmingly subdued by the grace of Jesus.
May you find peace in His presence.
And may you learn to trust Him more and more.
Amen.
